Answering the Call

Closing the gap in Addiction Medicine Education

Opioid-related deaths and substance use disorders (SUDs) continue to rise in the United States. The gap between addiction specialists and patient need is astounding. Only 1.4% of people who need treatment receive it.
Over 106,000 drug-related overdose deaths occurred in the United States in 2021.
Most doctors receive fewer than 10 hours of addiction training in medical school.
40.3 million people aged 12 and older had an SUD in the past year (2021). Fewer than 7,000 physicians are certified in Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry.
