What is the Practice Pathway?

It is the mechanism for physicians to meet eligibility requirements for certification in Addiction Medicine without completing an Accredited Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) fellowship training program in Addiction Medicine.
About the Program

Eligibility Requirements to Enroll in the MI CARES Program

For Physicians

  • Unrestricted and current medical license
  • Medical degree
  • Certification by any American Board of Medical Specialties Board
  • Engaged in the practice of addiction medicine by June 30th 2023

For Medical Students

  • Enrolled in course by affiliated institution
  • Medical schools interested in participating can contact us for more information
  • Students are eligible to access modules if they are enrolled in an approved course by an affiliated institution. Administrators will contact students with enrollment details.

Our GME MI CARES substance modules are also used to teach residents and students affiliated with Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, the University of Michigan, and Saginaw Valley State University.
