Description
This module provides an overview of the characteristics of substance use disorders (SUD) commonly seen in older adults, the risk factors associated with SUD in older adults, recognizing and screening older adults for SUD, and evaluating the various approaching approaches to treatment for older adults with substance use disorders.
Module Objectives
After completing this module you will be able to:
- Define characteristics of substance use disorders (SUDs) commonly seen in the older adult population.
 - List the risk factors for SUDs in older adults.
 - Describe how to recognize and screen for SUDs in older adults.
 - Interpret the diagnostic criteria for common SUDs in the older adult populations.
 - Evaluate the various approaches to treatment for older adults with SUD.
 - Compare the risk factors, recognition, and treatment of problem gambling in older adults.
